Better than Naked!?!?!

14 Nov

Hey my pretty little plums!

I wrote this blog earlier today and as I went to publish it the whole thing just disappeared. So…here we go again :)

I wanted to do a quick post about a product that I would gladly shout about from the top of a mountain. Well, I wasnt prone to altitude sickness at least.

By now I think we have all become acquainted with the Naked and Naked 2 palettes from Urban Decay. They have sparked a full-blown cult following, set records, and upon their release were sold out in almost every Sephora and Ulta that you could find. I have done a blog before about these products, if you are interested in learning more about them check it out. I don’t really have MUCH bad to say about them..I love them and use them all time. Well, I DID use them all the time until lately and I’m here to tell you why that is.

For most people, the problem with the Naked palette (and all its wanna be copy cats that have come to be since) is that they are 85% shimmery shades and 15% matte ones. Dont get me wrong, I love a beautiful show stopping shimmery shadow (say that five times fast) as much as the next person, but it creates a bit of a challenge using them as a lid color, highlite, and crease color. As far as I’m concerned too much shimmer is NOT a good thing. I’m not alone in this, the ratio of shimmer to matte has consistently been the only bad thing anyone has really had to say about the palettes through all the research and reviews I have come across.

The good people at LORAC must have been doing their homework as well because they came out with the LORAC PRO palette during the summer of this year. This little baby comes prepared with a mini eye primer, which I really havent made much use of as of yet. BUT, it also comes with 8 drop dead gorgeous shimmery colors as well as (hold on to your pants suit) 8 (that’s right 8) matte shades!!! Lets take a looksie at MY palette..shall we? NOTE: Mine is VERY well-loved so be prepared. However, I think the frequency at which I use it is a testament to how amazing I think it is.

See what I mean?

I have ONE bad thing to say about this and that is the packaging. Although it is sturdy and super sleek  (making it ideal for travel) its made out of the same kind of matte black rubber packaging that NARS uses. Its nice at first but keeping it pristine is pretty much impossible after the first couple of days. It’s not enough of a nuisance to bother me AT ALL.

Heres a quick swatching of a few colors. These swatches are on my hand after ONE pass through the shadow and NO primer.

Basically, I am in LOVE. The shadows are buttery, PIGMENTED, and super blendable. What I love most about this palette is that you can go out-of-town with it and not need anything else. It has all the highlite, lid, crease, and outer v colors you could possibly need to create any neutral day or night time look as well a couple blues and purples to mix things up a bit. But the proof is in the pudding, I havent picked up my Naked palettes since I purchased this one. As far as I’m concerned it’s a MUST HAVE! You can find it at Ulta or Sephora for about $42.

I hope all is well with you guys! Things are good here, I recently got married and finished makeup school so things are looking bright :)

wet&wild mega last lipstick swatches and review!

29 Aug

Hello my lovely little lemon pops! Hope all is well in your little corner of the world with you and your loved ones :)

Things are going pretty well with me. I’m finally feeling settled into Las Vegas (well….more than I was a couple of weeks ago) and am ready to get back in the blogging and photo shoot game. And quite frankly, I can barely contain my excitement to return to both. If you have ever moved to a BIG city before…you can probably share my pain. The simplest of tasks seem like a terrifying adventure and sometimes I just want to get my 4 pack of red bull and go home without seeing my life flash before my eyes a few times and fighting the urge to throw my GPS out the stinkin window. CAN I JUST SAY: If I had a dollar for every time my GPS provided me with more problems than it did solutions, I would have at least twenty-seven dollars right now.

But I digress…we are here to talk about the Wet and Wild Mega Last Lipsticks. If you have read my blog before, you know that late last year I re discovered the brand when I gave their eyeshadow’s and blushes a spin. If you havent heard they…are…AMAZING!!!! I don’t mean “amazing for the drug store” I mean they are amazing period dot. And, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that the fact that they have no more than a $4 price tag attached to them only adds to the awesome factor. I have a blog about some of the cheek products, and after this one I will have one up about the infamous eye shadows that I am such a uber fan of.

I picked these lipsticks up about a month ago for *drum roll please* $1.99 a piece! Lets see the goods:

From left to right: 1.Bare it All 2.Just Peachy 3.Rose Bud 4.Dollhouse Pink 5.Dont Blink Pink 6.Smokin Hot Pink 7.Stoplight Red.

The packaging isnt the most glamarous in the world..and in fact my tube of Dollhouse Pink gave me a bit of trouble and broke the day that I got it home. But, once again we are talking about a $1.99 product so there is only so much to be expected. On the plus side, it’s not going to break the bank to scoop up another should it be beyond repair.

Swatches anyone?

Left to right: 1.Bare it all 2.Just Peachy 3.Rose bud

Bare it all is intended to be the “nude” of the group but I find it to be way too brown on my skin tone. If you had a darker skin tone it would probably be flattering.

Dollhouse Pink is a dead ringer for Saint Germain from MAC and Dont Blink Pink reminds me a lot of Girl About Town from MAC as well.

All in all…I think these products are GREAT. I’m not gonna lie, they aren’t the “creamiest” formula in the world but it would be a bit of an over reach to categorize them as drying as well. I find them to be pretty long-lasting, and didn’t have any problems with “bleeding” or feathering.

Hope this review was helpful to you guys! Dont forget to check out the WhitneyLovesMakeup Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Whitneylovesmakeup.

Everyone have an amazing day and I’ll talk to you soon :)

Kat Von D True Romance Eyshadow Palette in Saint

20 Jun

When Kat Von D put her makeup line out.. I was pretty hesitant to give it a whirl. To be honest, any celebrity endorsed products are something I tend to stay away from. But..from researching online it seemed that a few of her products had established a bit of a cult status. So I figured it was time that I give one of the products a whirl and do a quick entry on my experience.

So while at Sephora I start swatching and playing around in the Kat Von D display until I came across what appeared to be her answer to the neutral palette. I am in a bit of a neutral eye shadow phase right now so after playing around with it for a moment, I popped it in my basket and headed to the check out isle.

As far as the selection of shades go, you definitely end up with more shimmer than matte colors. The only matte ones are the third one from the left (its called <3 ) and the very last one (called carravagio). The shade “<3″ is the real reason I bought the palette to begin with because I had never seen anything like it. Its a matte light pink color with tiny silver glitter in it. It’s just CRAZY gorgeous. The first shade called “Heavens” is a very shimmery white. And the second color “Enjoy the Silence” is a dead ringer for MAC’s eyeshadow in Nylon. The middle two are very shimmery warm gold/bronze colors. The third color from the right called “pray for me” is an shimmery ash brown color. And the last two are pretty much the same shade of dark ash brown but the second from the right called “bookworm” is a shimmer version of its next-door neighbor “Carravagio”.

All in all I’m really happy with the palette. I wish it would have included at least ONE matte transition shade…like a warm medium brown. AND..although the shadows are very pigmented and easy to blend they get very dusty when you run your brush through them. Consider yourself warned your makeup table might end up covered in this stuff if you are too rough with your brushes in the shadows.

My Favorite Pencils <3

13 Jun

Sorry teacher, there are just some pencils I don’t see myself ever putting down. Well, at least not for good that is :)

In this blog I am going to cover my favorite pencil products. I don’t see a point in giving a fun little introductory schpeel on the subject as it is very cut and dry. So let’s get right into it shall we :)

1. MAC eyebrow pencil in Lingering.

I don’t think its some breaking NEWS story that eye brows are very important. But if this does happen to be a surprising fact to you I will reiterate: BROWS ARE VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT!! In fact…ladies if I inspire you to do nothing else in the time we share together connected through the world-wide web bonded in our love for all things beauty related..DO YOUR BROWS! It takes only a few minutes to groom them. But you need to fill them in. Unless you don’t..and there are people who don’t. But the other 95% of you should be filling them in. Nothing looks worse to me than a lady with dark eye makeup on and sparse un defined brows. It’s not a good look!!! Anyways…the point is..once you start filling in your brows its going to be a bit of trial by error to find the perfect method and products for you. Mine is the MAC eyebrow pencil in Lingering. It’s a tiny little pencil that makes creating hair like brush strokes effortless. The formula is long-lasting and the color is perfect. Some brown colors can be a little too red or too dark creating a un natural appearance. Lingering is a perfect light ash brown color that i pair with cork eyeshadow from MAC to achieve my perfect brows :)

2. TARTE emphasize inner rim brightening pencil.

I kind of want to go on and explain the purpose but the name of it kind of eliminates the need to do so. FUNFACT: If you put a white eyeliner on the inner water line of your eyes it makes them appear wider more and more awake. EVEN MORE FUN FACT: Depending on your skin tone white can look a little harsh. The good people at TARTE got you covered though guurrl. This little baby is the PERFECT shade for this task and really does make you look like you had a GOOD 8 hours of sleep when we all know good and dang well margaritas and bohemian rhapsody into the wee hours of the morning got the better of you.

3. Urban Decay 24/7 concealer pencil.

This kind of got me simply because it IS a pencil. I’ve never seen concealer packaged like that. And for all I know that’s for a reason but right now I gotta tell you…this stuff is GREAT!!!!!! I am going through a concelaer faze. I do that. Most often with music..I pick a band, obsess about them for months on end, get my fill, and then start hunting around for my new favorite tasty jam. Same thing with makeup…and right now I am all  about concealer. Picked this guy up on a whim..and *cheese and rice!* I’m glad I did. The product is insanely pigmented, über creamy but not so much that it looses its ability to last a long time, it doesn’t crease, and it doesn’t collect in fine lines. Not that I have any :) (kidding’ish). Just sayin..check these out if you havent already

3. Miliani Liquif’eye eye liner in BLACK. These are a dead ringer for the Urban Decay 24/7 waterproof liners. Just as creamy, pigmented, and once it sets its there until you take it off with soap and water. It non irritating when used in your water line and its only something like $6. With a price that low you can afford to buy all the colors available which include a lovely blue and gorgeous purple.

4. Too Faced Perfect Lips Lip Liner. It is just as the title indicates..a PERFECT lip liner. It goes great with pretty much any neutral lip color you may be rocking that day..OR worn alone with a gloss on top. The choice is yours :)

I hope this was helpful! Dont forget to check out the WhitneyLovesMakeup Facebook Page (I’ll put the link below) to get in on daily looks, fun facts, give aways, beauty news and MORE. Have a wonderful day!

SPLURGE VS. SAVE: MAKEUP FOREVER HD POWDER VS ELF HIGH DEFINITION POWDER

21 May

I’m not gonna lie as far as the “Splurge vs. Save” series goes I think I picked a pretty difficult one to go for. But that’s mostly because I feel like as far as these types of powders go they are either something you will love or just not care too much for. And that’s got a lot to do with your preference for setting your makeup. If you’re the kind of person who likes  a tinted face powder then these might not be something you will enjoy for the simple fact that these are translucent powders. NOW…there are other ways to go about using this if you really wanted to (because as I always say) there is more than one way to skin a cat. I have used this ONLY on my under eye area when I am going for a more “brightening effect” with my concealer so’s not to alter the colors I used on that area of my face. OR I guess if you really wanted to you could still put the HD powder over your regular makeup routine (face powder of preference included). Because it is so light weight and translucent it doesnt cause an over powdered effect… which no one looks cute with.

Makeup Forever has kind of become famous for its HD line. I personally am an enthusiast of the foundation (which I covered in my last splurge vs save blog) and don’t think I can ever be without it again. Its most definitely my holy grail foundation. The powder however…I’m not going to lie I still don’t feel a huge LOVE for. Maybe it’s because of the cost ($32 for a full size container). I don’t mind paying a little extra for a great quality product but Im not sure if this one is 100% worth it. Lets take a look at what the company says about this product:

“The HD Powder is a unique, extremely fine powder available in one universal shade to make the skin absolutely radiant. It sets the foundation and matifies the skin without changing its natural contours.  Consisting of mineral silica powder, its talc-free formula is non-drying. Its universal translucent shade matches all skin tones. The HD Powder can be worn alone or applied over foundation.”

ELF jumped on the band wagon not too long after MUFE with their answer to the High Def Powder. Heres what our friends at ELF have to say:

“The e.l.f. High Definition Powder is a translucent, versatile loose powder that creates a flawless, “soft focus” effect to the skin. Masks fine lines and imperfections for a glowing, radiant complexion. This incredibly soft and invisible powder is ideal for everyday wear, either alone or over your favorite e.l.f. foundation. Our HD Powder is a makeup artist and e.l.f. customer favorite, and at only $6, it can be yours at a fraction of the cost of the competition!”

Im just gonna break this down short and sweet for ya:

The products are remarkably similar. I did notice a “soft focus” finish on both…with a nice minimization of the appearance of pores. They both mattifye. They both are VERY finely milled and when you run them between your fingers they almost feel…I dunno…..like rubbery or something? It’s really hard to explain but I assume that has something to do with the silica component of the products. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE: is the staying power. ELF lasted maybe a fourth of as long without needing a touch up. AND under photography the MUFE version did make a noticeable difference compared to the ELF one. AND WITH BOTH…if you are a little too heavy-handed you are going to end  up with a super un flattering white mask on your mug. This is especially true when it comes to the under eye area as I found out the hard way! Like so:

All in all…this is one of those things I can either take or leave…as far as setting powders go I am more than fine sticking with my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural. If you have an on camera (HD THAT IS) event coming up it might be worth looking into..but other than that you might be safe passing this one up. This is of course all in my opinion because there are lots of other people who swear by these kinds of products. my

Physicians Formula Eye Booster Liquid Liner Review

20 May

I spent a little time last week trying out some new liquid liners are a result of an amazing buy one get on half off sale at my local Walgreens drugstore :) I don’t know if the same sale is happening near you but i do think it is worth checking out if so. :)

In my budget conscious quest I happened upon the physicians formula eye booster liquid liner in ultra black. It happened to be the last one left so very lucky day for this little lady right here!

The packaging suggests a 2-in-1 capability. Supposedly it not only acts as a liquid liner but also helps to increase lash growth. There are SO many products on the market making the same claim and I don’t really have any experience with this since I am such an avid false eyelash wearer. I didn’t purchase this particular product for the lash boosting abilities more for the hope of achieving a clean, intense, easy to draw on winged liner. BUT..just for kicks lets take a look at what the company says about it:

*High-tech formula enhances the appearance of lashes while providing the instant definition of a liquid eyeliner, in one easy step!

*Lash Boosting complex targets the base of lashes where it is most effective.

*Innovative and easy to use eyelining tool delivers effortless definition.

*High-tech Japanese formula is long-wearing, water-resistant and smudge-resistant

I have only had the liner for a couple of days so its hard for me to comment on the lash growing component of the product.

But I will say I LOVE this eyeliner!!! It is by far the most pigmented liner I own. And I feel I have tried my fair share (In fact down the line I will do a full-blown review/ compare and contrast on what I think of all the eyeliners I do have. But more on that later). I find the formula of they actual liner itself to be unbelievably smooth and easy to work with. It’s so dark that I don’t feel the need to go back and re trace my line which tends to be the case with most other liners I have tried..which means I’m basically just setting myself up for an error or goof on an otherwise already perfect line. Its long-lasting and I didn’t experience any smudging or running after over eight hours of wear. The brush of the liner is VERY fine and just stiff enough to ensure maximum control and precise application.

I HIGHLY recommend this liner to everyone! THE BEST part is its very affordable at around $12 full retail at wal mart or any drugstore that carries Physicians Formula cosmetics.

Thanks for stopping by guys! I hope this blog was helpful :)

Please subscribe to my blog and check out my the WhitneyLovesMakeup Facebook page :) The giveaway will be going on for ONE more week (since I have been gone for so long) and will close officially on Tuesday May 22nd.

Nude Lips For You Sexy Mother Puckers :)

19 May

I’m not going to lie…I dont understand the obsession with the Kardashians. Never have. I even TRIED to get on the band wagon at one point because to be honest I have always had a “if ya can’t beat em join em” attitude when it comes to pop culture obsessions. Especially with celebrity’s of the “famous for being famous” persuasion. because let’s be honest before you know it they will be EVERYWHERE! TV, commercials, product, magazine covers, clothing lines and on and on and on so one would be better off making peace with the epidemic and try to ride it out. Kind of like when you get a stye. It’s not going anywhere right this minute…but its here for now and there’s sense in locking yourself up in your house until it goes away. But I digress….my POINT is although the Kardahsian’s arent for me Kim Kardashian has been at the forefront of many of the beauty trends of the past few years. Her makeup artist Mario Dedivaonivick is a GENIUS! I honestly can’t say enough about him. One of Kim’s trade mark’s is her nude lips.

NOW…GossMakeupArtist (of YouTube fame) made an EXCELLENT point when he said most often when people come to you as an artist and say they want a nude lip what they MEAN is a beige lip. Almost to appear as if they are wearing concealer on the lip. I see this look all the time. I’m not saying its impossible to pull off the super nude lip but it’s not universally flattering what so ever friends. I assure you. I tend to favor what I call a “pinky nude”. I think they look much nicer and give your lip a neutral tone without totally washing you out. I thought I would go over a few of my favorites and a few that  I have found to look nice on clients as well. REMEMBER: The perfect nude lip is going to be unique to you. Think of it as a “your lips..but BETTER” color you lip color is unique to you. If your friend looks amazing in a peachy nude matte lip it doesnt meant it’s going to look that great on you.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: With any pale lip color..smooth lips are a must. Any bit of chapedness (I think I just made up a word) you have will stand out that much more. It’s not a good look on anyone my love so prepping your lips is CRUCIAL. I would go ahead and start exfoliating your lips right about…now. Well after your done reading this of course. Theres tons of lip scrubs on the market but you can also make your own. Just grab a small Tupperware container put about three or so tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and about the same amount of regular sugar. I can’t tell you the exact measurements cause I always just kinda eyeball it. You want the final product to me a paste like consistency when you are done. Its cheap, easy, and you can always save the left overs. Simply take your paste rub it over your lips for a bit..rinse and *viola* instantly softer and smoother pucker. I recommend doing this three times a week but once will be just fine as well. When you sit down to do your makeup before you get started go ahead and apply a lip balm of choice. By the time you get to do your lips the formula will have had time to absorb in to your lips.Well prepped lips make for a smoother application, even color distribution, and longer lasting lip color. Here are the nude-nudey pink colors I like the best:

Here we have a mix of drugstore and MAC lipsticks and two other products that aren’t exactly lipstick but I rather like them anyways :)

Drugstore brands from left to right: Maybelline 720 in pearly pink, Maybeline 015 Born with it, Maybeline 205 Nearly There, and Revlon Colorburst in 070 Soft Nude. The swatches shone on my arm are done in the same order.  I dont have A LOT of drugstore colors that I care for but I will say the Revlon soft Nude I have purchased SEVERAL times. It’s a super creamy peachy nude color. The Revlon lipsticks are just really nice in general.

From left to right: CremeDNude,Hue,Viva Galm Gaga 2, and YSL Rouge Volupt on #2

From Left to Right: Angel, Blankety, Myth, and Faux.

Out of these my favorites on ME are Hue, Blankety, and the YSL #2. But I think there is something for everyone in this collection :)

The next two are not exactly lip sticks but they are some very lovely lip color options that (I think) are worth mentioning. They are the NYX soft matte cream in Stockholm and Buxom lip Crayon in Sydney

LEFT:  Stockholm Rght: Sydney.

I think that when you are doing a nude lip it helps to use a liner because it helps keep your lips defined despite that fact that you are using such a muted color here are my favs:

Left to Right: Too faced perfect lips, MAC sublime culture, NYX beige, MAC Spice, and Rimmel 049 Natural

Thanks for stopping by guys! I hope this blog was helpful :)

COASTAL SCENTS 32LIP PALETTE (CONTEST PRIZE)

15 May

Hey my loves!

I wanted to do a quick post on the Coastal Scents 32 lip palette for three reasons: 1.  I think it’s a great product 2. It’s a prize in my give away 3. It’s ideal for aspiring makeup artists working on a kit :) :)

When I first saw this on-line I was pretty skeptical of its legitimacy. The only reason I got it at all was because it was half off during the Black Friday sale last November. I had never bought a lip stick palette before and didn’t know what I was in for. I honestly assumed it would end up being a poor quality and poorly pigmented version of lip sticks that you would normally buy in a full-sized tube form. But when it was half off…I thought “what the hay”

I’m not often wrong when it comes to makeup but I definitely was this time!

This is the one that is in my kit so obviously it looks used..but the contest winner will (duh) get a brand new one. With this palette you get this amazing array of long-lasting richly pigmented lip sticks. Not GLOSS not BALM…but full blown lip stick. Heres a few swatches: I just kind of randomly picked a few to show you the pigmentation of them. In the palette you get the PERFECT mix of reds, corals, pinks, and nudes. From the lightest to the deepest shades. But if that’s STILL not enough options for you…you can always mix some together and get your own custom shade. They are VERY creamy and non drying. They all have a beautiful satin finish and don’t “bleed” outside your lip line.

I think this is PERFECT for anyone who wants to play around with or change-up their current lip color without spending a basquillion dollars on tons of different lip sticks till you find the right one. I think its amazing for this time of year especially because bold lips are very “in” for the summer months. Whether you enter the give away or not I do recommend checking this one out! You can find it at coastalscents.com.

ANYWAYS,

Like I said just wanted to do something short and sweet for ya! Please subscribe to my blog and check out my the WhitneyLovesMakeup Facebook page :) The giveaway will be going on for ONE more week (since I have been gone for so long) and will close officially on Tuesday May 22nd.

Hope all is well guys! Thank you so much for all your support :)

SEPHORA HAUL ATTEMPT NUMBER 2

15 May

Ok..

I definitely wrote this once before. When I published it…for whatever reason it posted only half of the article AND THEN I  changed it to draft so I could re-do it later but NOOOO…it stayed on “PUBLIC”. GGRRR! Technology! So if you had read this once already bear with me because lots of information was left out in the initial posting :( BUT I will post another blog today so you guys have something new to check out :)

NOTE: I am sorry I have been MIA lately but as i mentioned before I got a puppy, then I went on a mini vacay we had been planning forever AND THEN I had four wisdom teeth extracted which had me pretty out of it and passed out for a few days. But I am back and very happy to be :) And now I will commence with RE typing this thing * le sigh*

*AHEM*

Clothes shopping for me as of late has been a nightmare. As of latte=the past year or so. I don’t consider myself fashionably illiterate or anything but I would not consider myself trendy by any stretch of the imagination. I’m sorry..but I think a lot of the things that are coming out in boutiques and stuff are just flat-out silly looking. FACT: that is my opinion and I’m entitled to it. So go ahead and DONT bombard me with emails telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about and how you look amazing in your day glo skinny jeans and animal print bandeau bra and I just need to get with it. I’m not here to offend but like I said..just not my cup of sweet tea. My personal style is much more on the classic side of things. I believe that’s the reason I gravitate towards the styles of the 50′s. They are timeless..elegant..and sexy. THE PROBLEM HERE…is I can NEVER find clothes. I hardly ever buy myself clothing. At best I just purchase some new accessories here and there to spice up a piece I have had for years. I guess that’s why the bulk of what I buy is makeup. Which is how the blog entry came to be. I had been shopping around for three days looking for a dress or two to wear on me and my boyfriend’s weekend get away to San Diego we had been planning for months to NO AVAIL. I finally gave up and stomped over to Sephora..mentally apologizing to my wallet in advance for the beating it was about to take.

Heres the goods

and my 500 pt reward from Buxom!

Lets take a look shall we?

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 hour blush in Tipsy: I have been dying to try this stuff for months. But in all the time I have been trying to get my hands on this..I would never in a million years guessed I would pick this shade. I tend to gravitate towards pinky rose toned blushes. And this one is a BRIGHT true coral shade..but I decided to risk it. And I am SOOO glad I did. I am obsessed with this shade and will  probably be wearing it all summer!   I don’t feel the swatch does it justice so you will just have to trust me when I say the pigmentation is out of this world. A little goes a very long way. PLUS the staying power one hundred percent lives up to its title. I wore this both days we were in San Diego and it lasted all day and all night! I fully intend to get some more of these.

2. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer: First of all..this stuff legit smells like chocolate. Makes me wanna lick it! Dont worry….I wont. I am very particular about bronzer. I do not like shimmery ones and I do not like orangey toned ones.  This one fits the bill perfectly. It’s a buildable formula which makes it perfect for contouring and *yay* very long-lasting.

 3. NARS cheek highlighter in New Order: In the pan this looks like a pretty baby pink blush. In reality it’s just the most beautiful ULTRA shimmery pink toned highlighter with silver glitters in it that I am über in love with. I have never had a highlighter that isn’t either gold or champagne toned. It just gives your skin a gorgeous rosy glow wherever you apply it. Since it is SO shimmery I don’t recommend using it in day time (unless you dig that disco ball kind of look) but at night it’s just drop dead gorgeous

4. Nars LipGloss in Angelika. It’s a gorgeous bright purple toned pink. The formula is just pigmented enough to punch up any pink lip stick you put it over  without completely altering the color. OR you can wear it over a nude lipstick and it just adds a little more ”uumph” to it. Definitely one of my new favorites :)

 4. Very irresistable roller ball fragrance. Just cause its my signature scent and I wanted a perfume to throw in my purse for when I’m on the go :)

AND FINALLY:  my 500 point reward! This is a pretty sweet deal if you ask me! It’s a full-sized gloss in April, a mini Lip Crayon in Sydney, and a mini Buxom Mascara. The Lipgloss alone was a good reason for me to cash in my points. I have another Buxom gloss in Sugar and I LOOVE it. They smell like Mint Chocolate and have a slight plumping effect without being too sticky. The lip crayons are similar in smell and they have the plumping effect as well but are intended to be used as lip sticks. I have a full-sized one in Vienna and love it as well. I am so happy with this lipstick/gloss combo! It’s a PERFECT everyday pinky nude lip made all the more perfect because I got it for the FREE-SKI! :) :)

Alright guys that’s it…I am SO GLAD this will be finally posted correctly! :) Dont forget to subscribe to my blog and “LIKE” me on Facebook. PRIME TIME! *eye primers*

19 Apr

Hello my funny little figs!

Ok….Hands down one of the most common questions I am asked is what eye primer I use.

And honestly…I use a few different ones. It all depends on the kind of look that I am trying to create. Think about it…when you are in the kitchen you don’t use the same pan to cook lasagna that you use to cook pork chops.

If you’re not the kind of person who likes to change-up their makeup look often then its really not necessary to have an arsenal of primers at your disposal. One good product will do you just fine. Since I’m a makeup artist I am always trying different ones to make sure i get the perfect finish and maximum amount of staying power. The last thing I need is to be busting a hump on a beautiful eye look just for it to crease or lose its vibrancy a few minutes after my hard work is done.

The main purpose of an eye primer is to create a barrier between your eyelid and your eye shadow. The reason your eye shadow creases or fades in the first place is your eyelids naturally produce oil the same way other parts of your face do. NOTE: If you DONT have a problem with oily skin that doesn’t mean you shouldnt use a primer. The other benefit’s are that it increases the longevity of your shadow AND makes the colors you use seem more vibrant and pigmented. A good primer can take even the cheapest brand of eye shadow and give it the extra punch it needs to stay in place all night while looking freshly applied and flawless. I cannot stress the importance of using a primer ENOUGH!

For the longest time..it was almost impossible to find one that was not in the $20 price range. But in the past couple years the makeup gods have smiled upon us and delivered us some great drug store and wallet friendly options. That’s not to say some of the high-end ones ARENT worth the extra bucks but at least now you have the option to buy other kinds. Lucky you! :)

NOW: as far as TYPES of primers go. I’m going to discuss the two kinds I like to use..the ones I think are the best and the ones I think you definitely can skip over.

Lets get started

These are the primers I would use on an everyday basis. The functionality is there but they don’t do anything heavy-duty like my “creamy primers” do. Which I will get into in a minute…

(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) 1.) Painterly Paint Pot by MAC-I use this one whenever I am creating a look using only neutral colors. Browns, tans, champagne colors, and things of that nature. I find that I really like the opaque, flawless, skin toned canvas it creates on my lid. I heard a lot of talk before I bought it on how it was very difficult to work with made blending colors a bit of a challenge. I have never found that to be true BUT there is something to be said about learning how much you need and what too much of this looks like…if you use too much it can be problematic. This is intended to be a cream shadow…keep that in mind..so it does have a color to it. I would suggest going to MAC and asking an artist which shade is right for you. This one will not be a match for everyone. I also recommend storing them upside down so that they don’t dry out too quickly. 2.)Urban Decay primer potion: The cult classic for a reason. It comes in a super convenient squeeze tube. The one in the purple bottle is the original formula (there are four different kinds I believe). This stuff is great. If you buy a full size (not pro size) tube you can probably get by with having it for up to six months. Even if you use it every day. You don’t need a lot to get the job done AND it works amazing. I can’t tell you how many times I have fallen asleep with my makeup on ( I know I know..bad Whintey) and the next morning it looked EXACTLY the same. And I tend to be one of those ugly messy sleepers so that’s saying something. It has a transparent finish…so you can put ANY colors you want on top and it  wont change the nature of the shadow except it does enhance the vibrancy of the colors a bit. Whats not to love about that? 4.) ELF  Eyelid Primer. *SIGH* I recently picked this up in my ELF target haul I spoke about in an earlier post. POINT BLANK: I do NOT like this stuff. I don’t like the texture..I don’t like the color…and it creases your shadow immediately. Maybe I’ll give it another whirl….but I doubt it. All in all I think you guys can pass on this one. 5.)Palladio herbal eyeshadow primer: I first heard about this from Marlena of makupgeek.com. She said that the formula was VERY similar to that of the urban decay primer potion. Sounds great on paper..but I had to wonder if it was really true. Turns out: IT IS! It’s so similar that when I tried it out I put the Palladio on my left eye and the UDPP on my right eye and by the end of the day..I could tell no difference. Both lasted all day and both resisted creasing. You can pick this up at Sally’s for about $7.00. The only thing I DONT love about this product is the doe foot applicator. I prefer a squeeze tube because at the end of the day you tend to waste a lot of product because you just cant get ALL of it out. BUT since it is only $7.00 its easy for me to over look.

On to what I call the creamy primer’s. The purpose of these primers (for me at least) is very specific and I DONT use them on an everyday basis for good reason. The consistency on all these are very thick…they are VERY opaque…and I only use them when I am creating a  vibrant more artistic editorial look on either myself for fun or on a model for a photo shoot. NOTE: Because of the extremely creamy texture of these products they take A LOT of getting used to. The main thing to remember is they do require a primer underneath them. Something like the Palladio or the UDPP is ideal because they are light and resist creasing and control oil on your lids. I don’t really consider these “primers” as much as I do eyeshadow bases.

(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) 1.) NYX jumbo eye pencils. I can’t say enough about these. As you can see one of them is a mere little nub of what it once was. That’s the Jumbo Eye Pencil in MILK. This is a STARK white, richly pigmented, opaque, creamy eye shadow base. It took me quite some time to figure this out to be honest. Once again..these do take some getting used to. It’s all about learning how to distribute them evenly on your lid and finding the right amount that will stay put and POP those vibrant eye shadows without making  blending any more difficult for yourself. It just takes a little practice. But they come in TONS of colors and cost about $4.50 a pop. 2.)NYX eye shadow base in WHITE. I expected this one to be like a potted form of the NYX jumbo pencil in MILK that I am so in love with. And in a lot of ways it was. It still has the true white color base to it and it is a creamier product than my everyday primers. HOWEVER…it is much thinner and you do have to kind of build it in order to reach the same level of opacity. I recommend this for someone who is just getting started experimenting in primers like the ones I am talking about right now. 3.) Bitchslap Cosmetics corrector in LITE. This product is ACTUALLY  a concealor. The consistency is THICK and creamy. Probably more so than any of the other ones I have mentioned. Since it’s a concealor it’s not WHITE but a very pale flesh toned color. This one really gave me troubles at first. But after several attempts and lots of patience I FINALLY figured it out. The only thing I don’t like is if you get it too close to your eyebrows it tends to stick to the hairs and at that point there is really nothing you can do about it except wipe it all away and start over.

I hope all this information was useful to you guys :) If you have posted questions or inboxed me questions about makeup or products on my Facebook and i havent responded yet I am NOT ignoring you I am working on a blog post JUST for you and the inspiration your inquiry sparked :)
